SO, YOU WANT TO BE AN EXPLORER SCOUT DO YOU?

Now you are at least 14 years old, you will have the opportunity to join the EXPLORER UNIT. This section of scouting started in 2002, as it bridges the gap created when the age ranges of the former Scout Section (10.5-15) and Venture Scout Unit (15-20) have changed to enable a more appropriate programme to be run. You will be able to stay in EXPLORERS until you are around 18, at which time you will be able to join THE SCOUT NETWORK, until you are 25. The Explorer Unit is called ‘PHOENIX’, and any Explorer from the Worthing district can attend the activities.

The uniform is the long sleeved beige shirt or blouse, group scarf, blue activity trousers and shoes. As with the younger sections, you can transfer both the Worthing badge and the West Sussex badge to your uniform.

The section does not have Patrols like the Troops, but is run by the members with guidance and organisation by the Leaders. Meetings are on Tuesday evenings, between 7.30 pm and 9.30 pm. These Tuesday meetings are non uniformed, but full uniform is expected on all formal occasions, for example, Church Parades.

The programme aims to be very wide ranging, with both physical and mental aspects, designed to challenge all members, build teamwork and enjoy some collective fun.

The Explores also support The Duke of Edinburgh's Award

Some of the outdoor activities are more adventurous than those found in the younger sections, and we hope that members will want to take advantage of these opportunities. It is however, up to the individuals to find out what is going on, take the information home, and, most importantly, remember to turn up!
